I am tracing the James line of my family tree. Does anyone have any information on a Maria James ,daughter of Thomas and Sarah James of Ayleford / Soudley. In 1881 she was a domestic servant living at Ayleford House. I believe she had a daughter Beatrice ( illegitimate) in 1886. In 1901 census Beatrice was a visitor in Soudley . Does anyone have any more information about them?

MARIA JANE JAMES was baptised on 09/07/1865 at Cinderford St John.
BEATRICE EMILY JAMES was born 12/04/1886 and baptised on 04/06/1886 at Cinderford St John (no father's name). Both records can be viewed on this site. I can't find a marriage or burial for Maria or Beatrice, but we'll get Slowhands on the case!

Yes, becuase of this excellent site I have found the siblings in the parish records. I believe Thomas to be my gg grandfather. At least three children died young I think from reading the parish records. I have been trying to trace what happened to the other children. Margaret, born 1873 was my g grandmother. Her brother Samuel married. Have not yet traced Emily , Willian John past their baptism or indeed Maria past the 1881 census and the record of Beatrice's baptism .

Unable to find marriage but in 1871 Census Adelaide LEWIS is listed as Sister in Law.

Thanks for all the info, some I had managed to find, others hadn't shown up in my search, just the way the database was working for me I think. Am now interested to find any descendants / links to the James children that survived - descendants of Maria and Beatrice and Maria's brother Samuel who I believe married Gertrude Read in 1896.
