George Morris Morse. (General)

by lofty93, Wednesday, August 08, 2007, 13:22 (6319 days ago)

I found this death notice in the North Otago Times, New Zealand, newspaper of 26th March 1872, page 2, column B:-
"On the 21st March, at Oamaru, in the 57th year of his age, Mr. George Morris MORSE, formerly of Dean Forest, England."

He would appear to be the son of George Morse & Ann Morris of Lydney, married 1807.

The newspaper is available on our NZ Natioal Library site -

Hope this is of use to someone.
Brian.

George Morse and George Morris Morse

Thank you - this information is brilliant. Have been tearing my hair out over which George is which.

I have come late to this and have been pursing the free oner connection.

I think we are still missing the link to which John and Margaret Morse is their ancestor, as I appear to have it entirely wrong.
Too many John Morses marrying Margaret Jones's in the same place..

According to this, George Morse who married Ann was 8 years old when George Morris Morse was baptized.

Do we have any other George Morse married t Ann's please? Can anyone help with this?

George MORSE and Anne CLARKE

by mrsbruso @, Tuesday, June 14, 2011, 03:15 (4913 days ago) @ jbwheat

Okay. Now I am completely confused. I have muddled which children belong to George Morse and Anne Clarke and which ones belong to George Morse and Ann Morris. I believe this thread shows Eliza as belonging to Ann Morris, but the George who marries Anne Clarke mentions his eldest daughter Eliza in his will.

And if the George Morse was born in 1784 in Newland marries Ann Morris, does that mean that the George Morse christened 30 Aug 1789 is the one who married Anne Clarke (c. 16 Feb 1783)? And what of George Morse c. 14 May 1758 (Blakeney).

George Morris Morse b1815 Yorkley, emigrant freeminer.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forum and website,

First, please note that where a username is displayed in black, that denotes they're not active on the forum. Sadly this applies to JBWheat, who posted 10 years ago. It's possible she will see your post, have to wait and see. For your further info, if you click on an active username, as denoted by blue text, you can see when they last visited the forum.
Of course other users may still be able to help untangle the various George Morses, I hope so.

Ref your query about them being Freeminers; since some of this thread was posted the Freeminer Database has been added to this website, like several other excellent aspects of this great site it can be found under the "Resources" heading on the main menu bar.
For background see http://www.forest-of-dean.net/joomla/index.php/resources/register-of-freeminers

Searching that database gives a few George Morses, especially this one as a starter;

Record_Number: 497
Forename: George Morris
Surname: MORSE
Calculated_Year_of_Birth: 1815
Age: 23
Day: 15
Month: Sep
Year: 1838
Residence: Yorkley
Remarks: America
Memorandum: America struck out possibly when book was updated
Soundex: M620

This suggests he did emigrate but perhaps not to America. This would appear to perfectly match the details within the first and second posts within this thread, and so New Zealand.

--

I haven't studied/understood this thread in full wrt all the various George's, but from those registered as freeminers perhaps this is his father ?,

Record_Number: 493
Forename: George
Surname: MORSE
Calculated_Year_of_Birth: 1784
Age: 54
Day: 15
Month: Sep
Year: 1838
Residence: Yorkley
Remarks:
Memorandum:
Soundex: M620

This George born about 1784 residing Yorkley appears to match the man mentioned in the third post on this thread (by Slowhands).

Hope this helps, meanwhile please do visit the many and varied sections of this website apart from the forum, it's amazing just how much is there to be found, there are various search boxes to help with this.

Thank you Jeff! I think I have it all straight now.

After my very moving visit to the FOD and Morse's Level last year, I would very much like to meet Morse relations next time I am there.
George Morse who developed Morse's Level is my Gt Gt Gt Grandfather and George Morris Morse my Gt Gt Grandfather.
