Researching Surname Lane Goodrich /Joyford area (General)

by Caddi, Friday, August 17, 2007, 05:16 (6310 days ago)

I am trying to research my Ancestors who Lived in the Goodrich/ Joyford area

Surname Lane. I have a Thomas Lane 1869 Grandfather,Married Amelia Ecclestone, William Lane G/Grandfather 1816, married Elizabeth Hardwick, Henry Lane GG/Grandfather a1770 married Honor Jewel so far. If anyone could help with this surname it would be very much appreciated any small detail will help as I live in Australia and find it difficult from this end. I know Willlam was buried there if that is a help. Thomas went to live in Featherstone, Pontefract Yorkshire and married my Grandmother Amelia Ecclestone.
Some were born in Herefordshire and I presume moved to Gloucestershire.
Thank you
Kind Regards
Jackie Atkins (Nee Lane)

Hi Jackie

If you go on to the Parish Records on this site and enter 'Lane' for the Surname, leave First Name blank, and look up all events for CHRISTCHURCH you will find several Lane's listed for Joyford. These include the burial of a William 01/03/1883 age 68, two marriages for a Joseph 30/04/1876 and 27/11/1887 (widower), a marriage for Anne 05/05/1873, and a marriage for Lydia 27/10/1879. There are other Lanes listed for Short Standing & Five Acres, so we need one of our resident experts with local knowledge to find out if these places are handy for Joyford and suggest where else you might search!

Regards
Chris

Hi Chris
Thank you so much for your help. I am still new to all this. You have been a big help now I know when William my great Grandfather died. My cousin who lives in England has also helped a little with the Lane's. If any of the local experts have any more information regarding the Lane's and the area they lived in it would be very much appreciated. All I know about it is Joyford, Forest of Dean. I have looked the place up on the Internet and what a beautiful place to live. I am envious of my ancestors
Thank you once again
Kindest Regards
Jackie (Perth Western Australia)
