Thank you once again slowhands for your help but I dont think Nathaniel is the right one .I saw his name on the IGI as being father to a Mary Ann WILLIAMS and although the entry shows a Mary, my 2xgreat grandmother of that name was already married to my 2x great grandfather, William POWELL (1837 at Mitcheldean)She was born in 1810
Thanks again and best wishes
Sylvia

as you recall 1841 census didn't show relationships !

My reading would be this is Nathaniel's son Alexander with his wife Mary, rather than sister / daughter of Nathaniel.

1861
Alexander Williams abt 1815 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Head St Briavel Gloucestershire
Mary Williams abt 1813 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Wife St Briavel Gloucestershire
Alexander Williams abt 1851 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Son St Briavel Gloucestershire
Francis Williams abt 1854 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Son St Briavel Gloucestershire
George Williams abt 1844 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Son St Briavel Gloucestershire
John Williams abt 1843 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Son St Briavel Gloucestershire
Williams Williams abt 1847 St Briavels, Gloucestershire, England Son St Briavel Gloucestershire

Hi
I`ve done a search of the parish records and found a baptism of a Mary Ann WILLIAMS at Mitcheldean in 1811 parents Nathaniel and Harriotso, So, it looks as though her age is wrong on the census.Four years seems a lot!but why is she still with her parents(perhaps visiting)

Hi
I`m sorry but records I`ve come across since seems to indicate that my great great grandmother(Mary Ann WILLIAMS) was the daughter of a George WILLIAMS and not Nathaniel as I had originally thought

Francis Williams born c1730

Hello Austyn,
Am taking the Easter holidays to tidy up my research files...
Can I ask you what you have on origins of Francis Williams born c1730?...I haven't yet come across a baptism for him at either St Briavels or Hewelsfield, the only entry I can find is a bapism of a Francis to James & Alice Williams in 1725. A witness to Francis Williams & Jane Moxley's marriage was a Benjamin Williams. A possible candidate for Benjamin was bp to James & Jane Williams in 1735 [was Jane 2nd wife of James?] ie Benjamin was half brother to Francis?
There was an earlier Francis b around 1700, but I have not yet found a link between him & 'our' Francis..any help much appreciated.
Hope you are keeping well.
regards Lindsey
