Morgans of Chepstow (General)

by barbarajane @, Wednesday, August 29, 2007, 02:46 (6298 days ago)

My granddad was Walter Morgan Vine b 1892. He had two sisters Daisy b 1897 and Florence b 1895, all born in Shrewsbury. They came to live with their grandmother in Chepstow in 1899 when their mother, also named Florence, died. Their father was Charles Robert Vine, who later married Laura and remained in Shrewsbury. Daisy died in childhood any Florence married a New Zealand soldier she met during WW1 and moved to Wellington, NZ

G.G grandmother Morgan had 6 daughters who all married farmers. Some of the names remembered by my father are Murphys, Pitts, Turralls & Vaugans all living between Chepstow and Woolaston.

According to family legend, Florence snuck into the Pursers office on ship & added an accent to change the surname to Douche' (Doushay). All subsequent Douche (with an accent) are descendents.

Charles Robert Vine of Bury St Edmunds

by Cestrian @, Trearddur Bay Anglesey, Monday, November 12, 2012, 20:05 (4396 days ago) @ barbarajane

Good evening Barbarajane

Charles Robert Vine was my grandfather, born in Bury 27 June 1868 and christened at St.Johns Church, Bury 16 July 1868.

My name is Charles Raymond Veno, named Charles for my father Lawrence Charles Veno (born Vine) who himself was named for Charles Robert Vine.

My father was the eldest child of Charles Vine's second family, born in Chester 1904.

I believe our name was altered to Veno as Charles Vine got into financial difficulties around 1900!

My grandfather died in 1937 just after I was born. He was well known around Chester as a courteous gentleman, rather impoverished but respected by those who knew him.

Some items mentioned on the Forest of Dean family history site seem to tie in with what my father told me over the years. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and how I wish I had questioned Dad at greater length.

I will leave it at that for the moment to see if you reply...I do not know if you are still at the same email address.

Regards for now hoping to hear from you Ray Veno
