1851 census for Woolaston (General)
by Gordon , Wednesday, September 05, 2007, 12:42 (6291 days ago)
Some years ago I used to find the transcript of this census free on the internet. I've lost the site address and it appears to have disappeared from the internet. Does it still exist?

The censuses you are referring to are probably the ones transcribed by Gordon
Beavington. Like yourself, I remember these censuses being available free to
view on the internet.
These censuses are no longer free but are now available for purchase on CD's
from his Web site.

As Dave/Admin says Gordon Beavington's transcripts used to be available on line but were withdrawn at about the same time as the Census became available at Ancestry.com
You can also buy a transcript from Gloucestershire Family History Society on CDRom. Details at: http://www.gfhs.org.uk/products.htm Personally I believe this transcript to be superior and with far fewer errors but as someone who was very heavily involved in its production I am baised!
Also to reiterate what Dave suggests please post details of what you seek and I am sure you will be pleasantly surprised.

1851 census for Woolaston - Thomas Edwards
by smerizon, Thursday, September 06, 2007, 09:42 (6290 days ago) @ shepway
I was surprised to learn that for 1851, the Woolaston census is enumerated with Monmouthshire, Wales.
I searched for quite a while using Ancestry for my ancestor, Thomas Edwards' 1851 census. I finally found him in Wales, indexed as Thomas Ewards.

2443 0490 045 Woollastone EWARDS George SO - 7M - GLS Woollastone [Woolaston]
I have looked at the original and the name is quite clearly listed as EWARDS and is therefore correctly indexed. The GFHS search engine includes Soundex so it would not have been difficult to find.
Woolaston was and, I believe, remains in Chepstow Registration District.
