Lucy and John Grindle (various spellings) (General)

by Jean Herbert @, Leeds Yorkshire, Wednesday, September 12, 2007, 09:36 (6284 days ago)

Lucy Grindle (nee Brain, parents William and Beata Brain), married John Grindell 16 Feb 1847) Found on 1851 census (curtesy of Slowhands in reply to a message from Lisa in New Zealand dated 9.02 2006)1851) Census shows child Reuben born abt 1850. Found record of his death, 1866 age 16.

I then found John and Lucy on 1861 census with further children:
Dinah abt 1853, Fred abt 1855, Milson abt 1857 and Pheobe abt 1863.

I could not find John or Lucy after 1861 but did find Milson and Pheobe living with a Joseph Grindell, listed as son and daughter.

I presumed both the parents were dead and found two death records:
A Lucy Grindall died in Sep 1862, no age at death given
A John Grindle died in 1872 age 56.

I then had a look on this site and found several articles relating to this family, most interesting one was the reply by Slowhands to Lisa from New Zealand (dated 10.02.2006). This seems to point to the fact that John and Lucy emigrated to New Zealand and left the children behind. Could anyone tell me if this is correct and does Lisa have any further information as to what happened to the family? Did the children eventually join them? Regards Jean Herbert

I'm sure Joseph is John's brother (1841 data)....

It looks like a John of the correct age arrives in New Zealand.

And this burial looks correct for Lucy G nee BRAIN

Think Charles may have died because I found a marriage record for Lydia Walding 1795 although not found a death record for a Charles that fits or a baptism for a Lydia Walding that would have been marrigable age at that time

Lucy and John Grindle (various spellings)

by Jean Herbert @, Leeds Yorkshire, Sunday, September 16, 2007, 09:17 (6280 days ago) @ carrie

Thank you for your message Carrie. At present I do not have a Lydia Brain in my tree. Read the marriage transcription but unfortunately it does not give her father's name. Do you have this? I did notice that one of the witnesses to marriage was a Thomas Meek. Not got him in my tree so far but do have an Amelia Meek born abt 1874 who married a Charles Brain born abt 1869. They married in 1893. Any connection?

Same with Sarah Grindall who married Thomas Walden. No father's name given. Any idea who he was? Regards Jean Herbert

Not sure about the conections yet but we have a number of Brains, Meeks and Grindalls that are entwined into our extended Walden/Walding tree either as spouses or witnesses. Just found a Fanny Walding married a George Meek (Father John Meek). I am looking for a Thomas Walden born abt 1801 parents believed to be James Walden and Mary Meredith (I have found that record)married Elizabeth ?

Lydia BRAIN 1781 Ruardean

by jimashton @, Friday, September 21, 2007, 02:01 (6275 days ago) @ slowhands

I have 7 Lydia/Lidia Brain's in my Family Tree including Lidia Brain baptised Ruardean 7.7.1781 Ruardean shown here, her parents Christopher Brain & Ann Jelfe had 8 children, including an earlier Lydia baptised 15.12.1771 buried 2.10.1774. However, I think it extremely unlikely that Lydia Brain baptised in 1781 married Charles Walden in 1789, which marriage is shown in this thread.
