Richard Jenkins baptised 31/3/1776 Newland (General)

by Diana, Saturday, September 22, 2007, 21:36 (6274 days ago)

Dear Forum,

Please can anyone help me find the father of Richard Jenkins 31/3/1776 Newland. Richard Jenkins 1776 married Ann Moss 1782 of Leeds at Bedwelty in 1800. His father was George Jenkins and mother Sarah Beach. I have traced the Beach family right back. I cannot find George Jenkins in any of the parish records on the website.

There is a death for a George Jenkins dated 1804 Breams Green but I cannot find that either. Where could I look for a will as I have not managed to find anywhere to search?

Was it usual for someone born in Newland to move to Tredegar - was Newland a coal mining area?

On alot of the documentation that I have for Richard Jenkins he is down as a 'gentleman'. However in the parish records for the baptism of his son John Jenkins at Bedwelty in 1819 his father is down as a Collier/Inn Keeper at Tredegar. Surely a collier would not be classed as a 'gentleman'

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Diana

Yes Mining was a Newland parish activity

Gentleman as in titled maybe not, but gentleman as in property owner then maybe

Dear Slow hands,

thank you I had found the baptism of Richard 1776. It was George Jenkins his father who married Sarah Beach that I am having trouble with. There is one who died at Bream 1804 who I assume is his father but I cannot find a will for him.

thanks
Diana

Dear Slowhands,

thank you so much. I had not thought to look that early! but of course that would only make him 46 when Richard 1776 was born.

Any idea where I can find his will - is there a site for Gloucestershire wills please?

Dear Slowhands,

thank you very much for the link - I too drew a blank. Perhaps he did not make a will - I will look to see if his wife Sarah made one - just thought of that!

thanks again for your help
