I was able to visit Lydbrook last year and was very pleased to find that the Anchor Inn was still in being as a free house. The owner was most helpful and showed me archived literature and photos of Lydbrook and also showed me a list of previous owners hanging on the wall. I took a photo of the list, which was as follows:-
1870 Robert Russell
Owner Lydbrook Chemical Co.
1879 R. Banks
1879 A. Burgum
1885 W. Burgum
1889 Hannah Burgum
1895 Edwin Jones
1897 Mrs E Phelps
1903 E. Phelps
1913 Fred Jones
1914 Osborne Meek to Feb 1914
1914 Tom Parry
1915 Fred Jones
1915 George E Meek
1924 Mary Meek
1935 Squib Howells
1938 Jim Cooper
Closed 9-5-54 Landlord J. Cooper
Cheltenham Brewery.
My interest here is that my Grandfather was landlord from 1915 to 1924 followed by my Grandmother to 1935.
I took a photo of the Inn and will be most happy to let you have a copy.
Dennis.
