William and Silas PHELPS (General)

John Phelps (abt 1840) and his wife Charlotte (abt 1841 nee Brain) had several children, one being Silas born abt 1861. I have not found baptism for Silas but came across a baptism record for a William Phelps, baptised the same year (17.02.1861) as aprox birth date of Silas. If this is, so far (in my records), an unknown child of John and Charlotte, he does not show up on any census records. I wonder if perhaps Silas and William were twins? but can find no evidence of this or a death record. Anyone any ideas? Jean

or I wonder if the transcription is "wrong" Silas mis-read as Wilm. ?

1861 census shows a Silas Phelps age 3 months living with his parents John and Charlotte Phelps
1871 and 1881 census show Silas to be living with his grandparents James and Mary Brain.
Silas married Margaret Williams in 1886 - had issue.

I can only assume that Slowhands is correct and the name Silas was mistranscribed as William. Jean Herbert
