Joseph HALE Abt1791-1859 (General)

by rogerhale, Sunday, November 11, 2007, 06:04 (6224 days ago)

I am trying to trace my great/great grandfather Joseph Hale and the generations before. He married Lucy Hampton 15/5/1814 in Little Dean but there seems to be no record of his baptism on the site.Is this simply because he was not baptised if so how can I proceed? Has anyone got any details of him?

The Newland parish registers 1783-1812 are currently with a volunteer being transcribed, hopefully they will be available within the next few weeks.

Hello Roger,

Believe you are on the right track here. I descend directly from Joseph and Lucy Hampton HALE's son William.

I am still working on proving most of this, but I believe Joseph's parents may have been John and Hannah LODGE. There is a possible marriage record (on the web site) in English Bicknor 29 May, 1790. No parents or ages listed for either, so proof is dfficult.

There is a 29 June 1767 Baptism (also on the site) for a John HALE, which would seem to fit the date range we're looking for. Lists John's parents as Philip and Elizabeth.

Again, this is more speculation than fact at this point. I would be interested in your thoughts.

Thanks,

Hi Scott

Interested that you are descended from William - my father was Harry 1902-1975 son of George 1874-1956 who was a son of William. Would be interested to know of your relations back to William -you must be related to one of William"s sons who emigrated?
Regarding John Hale"s baptism there is also a record on site for 26 June 1768 listing parent as James (English Bicknor)would this be the more likely?

Regards

Roger

Hello Roger,

You may be right about the English Bicknor baptism record. The location would seem appropriate.

My link to William and Lucy is through their daughter Fannie (1861-1917). She married George Hubert GRINDLE April 21, 1879, and they immigrated to the United States - he in October 1879, she and infant son George in May 1880. They settled in Coumbiana County, Ohio.

I have some info on your George, but would you mind sharing the details on him? You may contact me off line if you wish.

I can send you my family file on Fannie and George if you are interested.
