Does anybody out there have any info regarding the WORGAN family of Hewelsfield? My great great great grandmother was LOUISA WORGAN born 1814. She married THOMAS BROAD in 1834 and on the 1851 census for Llanhilleth,Monmouthshire, her birthplace is listed as Brockweir.I would be grateful if anyone knows who her parents were and if she had any brothers and sisters. Many thanks.Martyn

Many thanks slowhands for taking the time to reply to my query.I was at my local family history centre this week and i looked at the parish records for Trelleck. There were two Louisa Worgans who married within a year or two of each other. One was the daughter of John and Ann Worgan and i am sure she married a Joseph Ellis, but she died aged only 21 in 1836. Therefore i am quite sure that the Louisa Worgan i am related to is the daughter of Elizabeth as you have kindly pointed out.You have been a great help-thanks again.Martyn

Hello Martyn
I have Worgans in my Hopkins family:

... +William Worgan b: 1804 Hewelsfield, Glos. m: 01.05.1830 Hewelsfield, Mon.
. 3 Harriet Worgan b: 1836 St Briavels, Glos.
. 3 Ellen Worgan b: 1839 St Briavels, Glos.
. 3 Sarah Worgan b: 1841 St Briavels, Glos.

Sarah Hopkins is a younger sister to my great great grandfather Thomas Hopkins.
If your searches locate any connections to Hopkins from Brockweir/Hewelsfield, I would be interested to hear, and share any information that I have.
Best wishes, John Hopkins, NZ.
WORGAN family of Hewelsfield/Brockweir

As it would seem that Louisa was the daughter of Elizabeth Worgan of Brockweir, then I think it possible that she was a step-sister to children of William Hathaway & Sarah and a half-sister to children of William Hathaway & Elizabeth [2nd wife who may have been Elizabeth Worgan, though I haven't yet found a marriage]. There appears to be strong ties between Thomas & Louisa Broad and the Hathaways, they were witnesses to Amelia Hathaway's [half-sister?] marriage in 1838, and in 1851, Charlotte Hathaway [half-sister] was living in their household. Charlotte's daughter Maria Budgen was described as niece and cousin to members of Thomas & Louisa's family in later censuses.
It is possible that William & Elizabeth named their first son 'George' after Elizabeth Worgans's possible father George if she is the Elizabeth Worgan bp 1788; and the Elizabeth Hathaway who was buried in 1834 aged 46.Any ideas?
kind regards
Lindsey [descendent of William Hathaway & Sarah]
