Ernest BEACH and Zillah SMITH (General)

by fredb, Wednesday, November 28, 2007, 07:52 (6207 days ago)

Ernie Beach married Zillah Smith in 1915, (Ernie was my dads uncle) together for years they ran the Kings Head pub in Berry Hill. There was a photo posted here of the pub with possibly Zillah standing outside.

An old fella here in Broadwell, Mr Adams, told me that Zillah's Smith family had shops around Coleford, it may be how they came to run the pub. I'm trying to find out what happened to their children. Ronald H Beach and his wife died in a car crash, but I believe there were two daughters Maureen? and ?

Any of you Foresters know anything about them? I may be walking past relatives here in the Forest. Zillah died in about 1979 soon after I moved to Christchurch, I was always going to drop in and see her but didn't, I regret it now. cheers Fred Beach

Thanks for that slowhands. I imagine there was money to be made as a blacksmith, enough to set up a shop maybe?

I have just found some of the following info.

Ronald H Beach born 1919, I have found just one marriage for a Ronald H in
St Albans 1944, wife was a Vera Jones. (if this was him)

And daughter Maureen J Beach born 1923, she definately married Graham Hose in 1946 here in the Forest.

I have never come across the surname Hose before.

Ronald and his wife both died in a car crash probably in the 1950's, my brother thinks there were children. On with the show. cheers fred

As usual I got a lot wrong It was Ronald Glyn Beach, and he married Mary Angela King in the FOD 1949. I guessed the date they died in a car crash was when I was very young, but they died in 1970 in Abingdon, I believe they had just returned from America? Holiday? Do any of you locals remember anything about these people? I knew a Mr King who lived at Christchurch.

Zillah and Ernie's other child Maureen who married Graham Hose, they seem to have been given rather exotic names to their children. Mallory and Richenda, again does this ring any bells among you Foresters. I'll have to ask around Coleford. cheers Fred.
