parish search curiosity - William WAITE (General)
by reporter, Wednesday, December 19, 2007, 05:13 (6187 days ago)
It is probably something silly I'm doing, but search for baptism of William Waite (correct spelling)1787 in Littledean shows no result, unless the soundex box is checked, or a search is done for surname "wai%". Is this a common occurence - if so, I'll have do go back over all my searches done with exact names!
Am trying to get back further than William's parents, William and Damaris.....
Cheers
Bob Jenkins

Interesting :-)
tried both "waite%" and "waite<space>" your man is found
but as you say "waite" - search fails :-(
my "guess" is that an extra <space> is in the transcribed database and "appears" as part of his name !

Thanks Slowhands - parents JOHN and Damaris - now I must continue doing my 1000 lines for not checking stuff I found on LDS Abysmal files, before I knew better!
Cheers

There was in fact a white space after the surname Waite which slowhands detected. The white space has now been removed in the database and the record can now be found when searching that name.

She only lived 2 weeks, but was born same time as parents marriage???
And furthermore, the LDS had her mother dying 10 years before she (Mary Anne) was born.....

I get quite moved by the number of child deaths - reading about it in books is one things, but when they turn out to be your own family (Emily was a 3rd gt grandaunt)it's far more poignant. Then there's the US censuses which list how many children a woman has had, then how many were still alive. 13 - 4 is my "record" iirc. Social Services would have apoplexy today!

Oh my! Now my head is spinning! Been away from the boards a while - searching Waite/Jenkins/Morgan stuff and now yet another Jenkins lady marries a Waite! :)
How we manage to keep this straight (or at least for the most part) astounds me!
Thanks Slowhands & Bob...this will go into my future possibilities file as well.
