hello all

i am currently researching my wifes family history and would be grateful for any information on the following public house in the forest of dean

her great grandfathers was born in 1877 in the forest of dean in a public house called the up and at it. but so far we have drawn a blank on this. i have recently found out there was a strip mine called the strip and at it and thought this may be connected in some way

i would be grateful for any clues on this however small
thank you paul

Upper Adit ?

Paul

where were the family in 1881 - it might us help discover this building

PS

Strip-and-at-it was near Serridge Green

"Strip and at it" is/was also the name of a Freeminer ale, brewed in the Forest..

As-you-Like-it was a mine near Parkend

and "Addet" or "Adit" is a mine shaft... as in "Upper Adit" mine, part of the Lady's Slad complex at Cannop / Wimberry - which sounds like "Up'n at it"

dear slowhands
thanks for the prompt reply, you have certainly given us something to work on and we do think there is probably a connection with up and at it and upper adit, as to the family we have managed to find his marriage certificate which we will have shortly this hopefully will give us a bit more information.
once again thanks for the help it is appreciated
paul
