Need help with the surname Gonnings? (General)

by monfamilies, Saturday, December 29, 2007, 00:19 (6177 days ago)

I am researching a Morris family from Newland

George Reynolds Morris married Anna Maria Steel in 1810. George died in 1812 and Anna Maria Steele then married to a John Gonnings at Little Dean December 1812.

I can't find any sign of this surname, so I presume it has been mistranscribed by the GlosFHS or the vicar at the time.

Anyone have any ideas what it could be, or maybe have evidence from parish records or the census of John & Anna Maria.

I also know that George & Anna had a daughter Susannah baptised at Newland 19th May 1812, George died in July that year.

Thanks Mike

The surname seems to be Jennings as per the I.G.I transcription, so that sounds right, especially as this surname is to be found in this area.

Thanks anyone who made the trouble to look.

The CD has Jennings the original Fiche has Gonnings, so it looks like they checked it again or changed the spelling.

Thanks Slowhands, I can see the phonetic pronunciation of spelling the name with a G.
