Gwatkin's appearing in Chepstow in 1785 (General)

I have been researching a branch of the Gwatkin family that appears in the Chepstow, Monmouthshire records with the birth of a son, William, in 1785. The most common occupation in the family is "joiner" or "builder", with some inn keepers/victuallers as well. I have found no Gwatkins in Chepstow for about 50 years after 1785 that are not related to this family. I assume, therefore, that they shifted to Chepstow from somewhere.

William Gwatkin d. 23 Dec 1806, Chepstow
(no marriage record found, but wife = )
Elizabeth Maria b. abt. 1764 d. Dec 1826, Chepstow

Children:
William b. abt 1785 (joiner/victualler)
Walter b. abt 1786 (joiner)
John b. abt 1789 (joiner/builder)
Cornelius b. abt 1794
Eleanor b. abt 1795
Mary b. abt 1798-1800 (victualler different inn from brother)
Elizabeth b. abt 1802

Does anyone have a baptism or marriage record that could be for William or Elizabeth Maria?

Thanks!

Hi Anarchia

Welcome to the boards.

Have you looked at Parish records on this site? The earliest I could see on there was a John Gwatkin married Elizabeth Smith in 1755,at Weston under Penyard, any use?

Thank you for the reply. I didn't know that there were Parish Records on this site - the burial records for the Chepstow people were a nice find :)
