Emma Cooper, who is she? (General)

by Simone @, Wednesday, January 02, 2008, 01:09 (6173 days ago)

Hi

I have the following family

1861 Joyford
George Ward abt 1819 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Head West Dean Gloucestershire
Amey Ward abt 1823 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Wife West Dean Gloucestershire
George Ward abt 1858 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Son West Dean Gloucestershire
Hanah Ward abt 1854 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter West Dean Gloucestershire
Sarah Ward abt 1850 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter West Dean Gloucestershire
William Ward abt 1860 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Son West Dean Gloucestershire

1871 Joyford West Dean Gloucestershire
Emma Ward abt 1824 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Head
George Ward abt 1858 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Son
Hannah Ward abt 1854 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter
Sarah Ward abt 1851 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter
Sharlotte Ward abt 1863 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Daughter
William Ward abt 1859 West Dean, Gloucestershire, England Son

Emma Ward b c 1824 is my ggg grandmother, her daughter Sarah my gg grandmother. I have not been able to pinpoint a birth for Sarah Ward in the indexes or parish records, so I sent for birth cert for her sister Charlotte. It states her mother is Emma, formerly Cooper. I can't seem to find anything on Ancestry or on here for Emma. Does anyone know who she may be? Thought Sarah may have been born as Sarah Cooper, and there are a couple of possibles in indexes for 1849, but not so sure.

As always, any advice gratefully received.

Charles MARSHALL 1849 - 1854 Joyford

by Simone @, Wednesday, January 02, 2008, 04:05 (6173 days ago) @ slowhands

Oh Wow! Thanks Slowhands. Sarah was born a Marshall then.

Interesting the Nine-wells link, I went there a couple of years ago to see a cottage I heard so much about from my mother. The cottage was owned by William Watkins b c 1883 who was the son of Sarah Marshall/Ward/Watkins. Wonder if it is the same residence George died in?

More twists and turns than a soap opera my Forest families! I've no idea who I really am!

Thanks again - ace detective work!

Thats the way it appears - I can't find a "parallel" family of George/Emma and Sarah, the Charlotte name seems to have been passed down too...

I'd like to be able to offer a reason for the Marshall -> Ward change - its not surfaced yet :-(

Yikes! Just noticed George Marshall's father was John Byrne! not another change. I haven't caught my breath with the Watkins/Grately alias yet!!

... which set me thinking about Irish ancestory <BYRNE>

the "best " line so far seems to be 2 BURNS families in Joyford / English Bicknor in 1841 - James and William - James claims to be from West Dean in 1851...

and in about the correct time a John BURNS as father to
