Joice Selina Roberts - missing marriage (General)

by deejayw, Friday, January 04, 2008, 03:09 (6171 days ago)

My nans sister Joice Roberts b. Eastdean 1875 - 1951 - daughter of Anthony Thomas Roberts was married to Alfred William Weyman in 1904 - I find she married him under the name Joyce Selina Priceley in Westbury on S - but cannot find any record of her marriage to a priceley / priestly.
1901 Census shows her at home with her father Anthony under the name Priceley - widow - I use to visit aunt & uncle roberts in St John's Cinderford and nothing was mentioned about previous marriages. I have also found an old photo of Joice with a young lad of about 8yrs taken at Mrs Green's High St Studio Cinderford with an inscription on the back Aunty Joyce & Priestley ( no dates ) - no records found of a boy called Priestley
Can anyone help solve the puzzle
Thanks deejayw

My father-in-law was Alfred Francis Weyman, hence my interest in the Forest of Dean, if you would like to exchange information on the Weyman`s drop me a line.

Ive been looking into the family tree of Anthony Thomas Roberts, and came up with the same problem.

James Roberts 1876 (Joyce's brother) is my great, great grandfather.
we have came across some photos in the past week . we believe they are of Ann (Annie) Roberts (Joyce's sister) her birthday 20th March 1880. i have them of her 92nd birthday and her 90th which she is with family members there is writing on the back but not all is clear.
not sure if you are able to help, all i know (believe) is Annie married someone with the surname of White and lived in Cornwall.
i think she died in 1975 in St. Austell. the name on the back of the photos are ; Dennis, David, Jonathan ( it also says Son, 2 grandsons and great grandson).
if you are able to help i would really like to haer from you.

Do you have the certificate for the 1904 marriage to Alfred WEYMAN? I ask because Glos BMD indexes it twice, once for Joyce Selina PRICELEY and again for Joyce Selina ROBERTS. Of course this may reflect nothing more than the recording of a previous name, in which case it’s not very helpful. However, it could indicate the use of an alias which is something rather different.

Mike,

Back in 2008 there are some previous threads on Joyce Selina Roberts, she is part of my wife's Roberts family. We do have the marriage certificate of her and Alfred Weyman, which gives the following details

Date 11/4/1904

Location Westbury on Severn Registry Office

Alfred William Weyman Aged 30 Bachelor
Occupation Collier
Residence Cinderford
Fathers Name William Weyman Occ General Labourer

Joyce Selina Pricely Aged 29
Residence Mitcheldean
Fathers Name Anthony Roberts Occ Miner

Both Sign

Witnesses Ann Roberts and Ernest A Morse

In those previous threads it was thought that a marriage of a Slina Rooberts and a Jonathan Priestley in 1896 in Bradford could be her first one, but it is not Joyce Selina Roberts as it states that her father is John Roberts, occupation Farmer.

We are no closer the finding this Priestley/Pricely marriage other than there might now be a Plymouth Brethren connection
