he was born before Thomas and Louisa married so he may well be recorded with a different surname

Thanks, Slowhands! I will further check this "Richard Jones" lead. I had noticed that he was born prior to Thomas & Louisa's marriage, but could not find a baptism or any later information on the Richard W. "Cox".
Experts like you and Mike seem able to point out the obvious so quickly for the rest of us novices, it's almost ridiculous!
