Hi

Just trying to reply to Alison's thread re Hubert but it is locked?
Why is that?

Anyway here is what I have received by reqesting help on another boardfrom Colette

PRIEST
In affectionate remembrance of Hubert PRIEST , mason and a free quarryman of the Royal Forest of Dean in the county of Gloucester. Born at Coleford in that county, on the 14th day of February 1841. Died at Everton, after a short illness on the 19th day of September 1868, aged 27 years. 'Day by day his voice said come, enter thine eternal home,Asking not if we could spare, This dear soul it's summons bear. Had he asked us , well we know, we should cry, 'O spare this glow,' Yes with streaming tears should pray, Lord we love him let him stay.' Also Annie Maria PRIEST, of Waterloo, sister of the above, died December 26th 1907, aged 64 years. 'For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.'

What a lovely thing to say about him:)

also -

In 1881 126 was the Hospital for Infectious Diseases there was no 130.. ao unless the numbers had changed by 1881 i would say it was the Hospital.. M Silver must have been the registrar there.

Free Quarryman

I've checked the Free Quarryman transcription and I have a suspect - Hiram PRICE aged 32, of Coalway Same End ( sic ! ), 30th March 1872 - which is after Hubert's death so back to the drawing board :-(

There is a William PRIEST of Coleford who registers aged 30 on 1st Sept 1838, is this Huberts father - I'll recheck the earlier thread - but 1808/09 seems about correct...

< looks like 19/20 is the limit to replies in a thread before it locks.

Free Quarryman

Hi Slowhands,
Sorry to show my ignorance but what is the Free Quarryman transcription? I may be making myself look really foolish by asking this.
Hubert's father was William Preest (Priest) baptised 13.10.1808 in Bream and who died on 9.4.1854.
I found the inscription on Hubert's grave actually very moving and am thrilled that with Simone's help (and those on the other site) I have confirmed what I had thought.
Regards,
Alison

the Free Quarryman transcription

not a silly question ! - its the "Roll of Honour" CD http://homepages.which.net/~keith.walker3/LHScdrollofhonour.htm which has transcribed a number of the registration details of the Free miners and Free Quarrymen

Hubert Priest - Memorial Inscription

by priest @, Sunday, January 20, 2008, 04:32 (6156 days ago) @ Simone

A big thank you to everyone involved in my now very successful search for Hubert Priest. The inscription on his gravestone is very moving particularly if read out aloud.
With thanks again I could not have done it without your help.
Alison
