William BALDWIN and Amelia JONES (General)

This couple are my brick wall and I would be thrilled if anyone could help. I have William's baptism in Aston Ingham 7 March 1842 and have traced his line back a few generations. However, I have been unable to find his marriage to Amelia JONES circa 1865 when their first child was born in Monmouthshire. Their third child was born in Lydbrook and although the family had settled in Monmouthshire Amelia gave Lydbrook as her place of birth in various census. I beleive Amelia would have been born c 1845 but I have been unable to find her in the 1851 or 1861 census - there are a couple of possibles but I really need to find the marriage to identify her father and hopefully her family in those census. I have tried the St Catherine indexes and FreeBMD without success. It may be that she and William never maried but if anyone has access to a searchable FoD database I would really appreciate a lookup.
Many thanks.

Hi
I was interested in the baptism entry sent by Chris W for Amelia JONES as the parents were listed as John and Margaret JONES in Lydbrook / These were the names of my 2x great grandparents but I have no record of them having a daughter Amelia. The first child I found was James(my great grandfather) born Drybrook 1840 The next one I have is Mary born 1850. I have never seen Amelia listed with them but have wondered about the ten year gap

Hi Sylvia,
I now have my Amelia's marriage certificate and her father WAS John. The marriage was in 1864 and John was deceased. Witnesses were Jospeh and Fanny Pool. Also Amelia married in a Baptist Chapel which is consisitent with the "christening" record posted earlier. A real breakthrouh after many years of searching. I'm grateful for listers help. I would be interested to know more of your connection, can you share what you have found about John Jones and wife Margaret? You can email me off list if you prefer at penguin13@hotmail.co.uk.
Regards,
Molly

You ask if anyone has access to a searchable FOD database.
If you'd care to join the Members Area on this website, you will be able to search through thousands of Parish Records which have already been transcribed.
Just click on to 'Members Website' and follow the instructions.

Lateral thinking - brilliant. This looks very promising. I will obtain a copy certificate. I know William's father so will know if its the right couple. Hopefully Amelia's father will be Thomas which will fit with the other information so helpfully provided.
Many thanks everyone.

MY 3X Grt Grandfather William Jones married Maria Baldwin both born Cirencester Gloucestershire 1803.
They later moved to Drayton Berkshire with their family. I don't have any information about Maria and would welcome any information on her ancestors.
I did find a reference to Maria who was married to a William Jones who was fined for cutting underbrush on the estate of Lord Bathurst. I believe this is in the Forest of Dean. Not sure which Parish records I should be searching for information on Maria or William.

I have just found a "Baldwin" on my tree which starts and is centred on Lydbrook before my 2xgreatgrandfather's move across to Monmouthshire.
I have a daughter of Richard and Sarah Roberts nee Jones named Mary, baptised English Bicknor in 1812, who married a Thomas Baldwin on 21 December 1828.
My family is the Jones family starting with Richard Jones, 1834, then going back through Edward (1801), William (1760), John (1734) and Henry (no date known). I have used the Forest's web-site to search parish records and then collated with Census returns to find descendants and branches etc.
I also have an Amelia Jones, born Mynyddislwyn 1851 - died 1886, who is the daughter of David (1801-1882) and Hannah Jones nee Harris (1811-1875).
Do you think that there may be a connection between your Baldwins and mine?

Hi Bob
I once asked my father when our Jones family left Wales, he answered "There are more Joneses in England than Wales." So your Joneses went the other way?
I can't find any links with your Richard or David Jones with mine.
I have very little information on Maria Baldwin and was hoping someone might have something more positive.
I don't even know if I should be searching the Forest site as I am not sure how close Cirencester is to the Forest. The only link I have is that a Maria married to William Jones was fined in the Lyndley Court for cutting underbrush on the estate of Charles Bathurst, Lord Bledisloe. I also found a referance to a land dispute between a William Jones and Charles Bathurst.

Graham Jones
