Thomas or William HERBERT (General)

1851 and 1861 census East Dean shows a Thomas Herbert born abt 1850 in East Dean. His parents were Elijah Herbert born abt 1820 and mother Jane born abt 1814.
His father Elijah died prior to 1851 (exact date not known).
I can find no baptism record for Thomas but have found those of his siblings Elvina abt 1841 - Lydia abt 1842 - Elijah abt 1849.

Thomas was said to have married Elizabeth Phelps in 1873 Jan/Feb/March qtr vol 6a page 381
BUT when I checked the FOD marriages I found a marriage for Elizabeth Phelps to WILLIAM Herbert, father also Eligha, same date of 1873.
Can any one please tell me if they can find a baptism for THOMAS Herbert
and which Herbert did Elizabeth Phelps marry?
If it wasnt Thomas, my records are wrong and need to be re-researched.
I would also like to know who Thomas married if it wasn't Elizabeth Phelps.
Also, can anyone do my ironing for me whilst they have nothing else to do.

Jean

If this is the same family ( from prior thread) the mixture of surnames suggests
Eliza was a Phelps perhaps by marriage who married Thomas H with a batch of children around 1874 ( Herbert Phelps) ....

Thomas or William HERBERT

Thank you both for your replies. Our branch of the Herberts - in Yorkshire - stems from the marriage of Elizabeth Phelps and Thomas Herbert. They are well documented from that point onwards. My problem is that I found a marriage on Ancestry.com for Thomas Herbert and Elizabeth Phelps but on FOD site the marriage is for William Herbert not Thomas. Both the census returns and FOD marriage shows that Elizabeth was a Phelps and her father was John. So, still not certain which record is correct.
