Baptism of Mercy Godwin 1830

I noticed that one of the Witnesses was a female called Percy, and wondered if this should be Mercy. On checking the PRs I found this baptism:

There are several possible burials for Elizabeth but none in Christchurch. This one jumps out at me because this EG was buried in June 1830, just 3 months before all the children were baptised. Perhaps this is where she was from?

Would someone mind doing a couple of census checks please? We could do with knowing if Elizabeth was still alive in 1841/51/61. Thanks

There are no records prior to this date because the Church did not open until 1814.
Nearest parishes are English Bicknor and Staunton but as much of the Forest was extra parochial in the early 1800's ancestors could turn up anywhere.

But where is 'enery?
by ChrisW , Wednesday, February 06, 2008, 02:43 (6141 days ago) @ slowhands
Hi Slowhands
Henry Brown doesn't want to turn up anywhere!
As he didn't have his own children baptised until years after they were born, I am wondering if his parents didn't get Henry baptised either. It seems there were an enclave of Brown's in Lane End, so I guess he must belong to somebody down there.
Where did Francis Godwin marry Elizabeth? Did he even marry her at all?
Do any of the census's give a clue to where he was born? There appeared to be a lot of Godwins at St Briavels.
Who is the Powell that Mercy married? The only marriage I can find is between a James Powell & Mercy THOMAS at Hewelsfield in 1837. A James Powell was witness to a marriage in Christchurch.
Too many questions; too few answers!
Kind Regards
Chris

Gold star for Mike - spot on for date!
It also explains why Mercy was married as a Thomas not a Godwin.

Francis GODWIN 1782 - 1859
by ChrisW , Wednesday, February 06, 2008, 03:13 (6141 days ago) @ slowhands
Well done Slowhands. You give me one answer and then another question!
It looks like wife Eliza had died pre-1841 (unless she was round the shops when the enumerator called). But who is William Godwin? If he was another son (b 1832) then Eliza must still have been around.
This is 'doing my head in' and it is not even my posting!
