by AnneR, Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 09:05 (6136 days ago)
Hello, This is my first time on this site. I would appreciate help trying to find information about the four children born to Emma Vaughan single woman in Hewelsfield between 1859-1867. There were two boys, and two girls, William George,George, Sarah-Jane, and Dorah Elizabeth. Is this Emma the daughter of William & Maryann Vaughan born about 1839. Many thanks AnneR

Children of Emma Vaughan

Hello Bertha,
Thank you for the informaton on the children of Emma Vaughan.
The elusive one is Emma's son George. I am certain he is the link that I need into the William and MaryAnn Vaughan family. I am trying to establish that Emma's son George born 1862 is the George Vaughan who married Emily Harper in
Westbury-on-Severn in 1884.
Best wishes Anne

Hello Gordon,
Thank you for your reply.
I am unable to help with a link to Sarah Vaughan at the moment. I am trying to establish a direct link into the William and MaryAnn Vaughan family, and I am finding it extremely difficult.
If a connection to Sarah can be found I will let you know.
Regards, Anne.

Hi Anne
Given that Emma was born at Brockweir Common, and that she was living there at the time of the burial of her daughter Sarah Jane, it would seem reasonable that her parents were William and Mary Anne. If they weren't, someone will soon tell us! So far I haven't been able to find a marriage for Emma, but there is a possible burial in 1913 at Bream aged 77. Regarding the children:
On FreeBMD
Birth Registered for Dorah Elizabeth at Chepstow Jan-Mar 1867 Vol 11a Page 14
Possible marriage at Pontypool Jan-Mar 1887 Vol 11a Page 148

Hello Chris,
Many thanks for your reply.
Good to hear that I might be on the right track in thinking that Emma's parents were William and MaryAnn Vaughan.
Your help is appreciated.
Best wishes,Anne.

I have been reading your postings with interest as I am connected to William and Mary Ann Vaughan through their son Andrew Vaughan b1824.
As the 1871 census has George living with Henry and Eliza 'Whitty'and listed as nephew is it possible they are really Henry and Eliza Whitby who married in Newland in 1853?

Hello deejayw,
Thank you for your reply.
It seems there could be a link between our families. I have to prove that George Vaughan 1862 (Emma's son) married Emily Harper in 1884 in Westbury-on-Severn. It would then be confirmation that George 1862 was my husbands Grandfather.
Do you have any information on George?
Best wishes, Anne

On the 1851 Census Emma Vaughan is listed as living at Brockweir Common b1838
parents being William Vaughan b1796 labourer born at Hewelsfield and Mary Ann b1796 at Tidenham, there are quite a lot of siblings as well.
There is a possible marriage in the parish records on this site.
William Vaughan to Mary Ann Evans at Tidenham on 29 Dec 1818

Census Look-up 1881 & 1891 - George VAUGHAN
by ChrisW , Thursday, February 14, 2008, 13:04 (6135 days ago) @ ChrisW
This is a bit of a long shot. At the marriage of George Vaughan & Emily Harper (13/07/1884 @ Huntley) George is a Labourer residing at Holy Trinity, Liverpool.
We don't know when he moved there, but could someone do a census check to see if they can find him in Liverpool please? It should at least tell us if he came from the Forest (and the right part). It might be useful to check 1891 as well in case Emily moved up there with him.
Many Thanks
Chris

The balance of probability is there - but it this game "confirms" is something I'd be cautious about !!!
