Alfred Vaughan (General)

by RoseAnnie, Friday, February 15, 2008, 04:51 (6135 days ago)

My 2nd G Grandfather Alfred Vaughan married Eleanor Baldwyn (Baldwin). I have his marriage certificate which names his father as William.
There is an Alfred Vaughan birth registered - Bromyard March quarter 1838, but I have a suspician that this is the son of Nathanial.
I have found an adult baptism - mother Elizabeth 09/01/1867 - Dymock, and a burial 20/01/1867 - age 30 - Dymock.
can anybody help me with more information.

No, I don't think that is the one.
I have -
1840 Census -5- Vinmill, Dymock - with John & Mary Minchin-not born county
1851 Census -14-Lodger - Nomansland - ag lab - born Midloe, Cambridgeshire
1861 Census -24-Head - U Castle Tump - ag lab - (listed Frederick),born London -Mary Minchin boarder

possible brother - Thomas, b 1839 - Dymock - 1851 boarding with Mary Minchin, Dymock Village - possible baptism 24/06/1838 - Dymock - Vell Mill - base born son of Elizabeth.

It is quite confusing but John & Mary Minchin keep popping up, I wonder if they are perhaps the Grandparents.

My transcription would be

1851
Alfred Vaughn abt 1837 Midloe {MIDDLESEX} Lodger Dymock, Gloucestershire

adding some weight to London in 1861, but that could be a "smoke screen"

You must be wide awake, this Kiwi should still be asleep. I think you may be onto something. On the Marriage Cert is says his father William is a Gentleman, I think I'll have to look further into this farm. TY

you got it. Sunrise is lighting up the sky as we speek (lol). I thank you for your efforts. I think I have to go back to Cambridgeshire to find out more about Alfred.
In the 1861 Census - he is at Castle Tump, with Mary Minchin as a boarder. Interesting, he was boarding with her when he was 5 along with his brother Thomas. In 1861 he is listed as Frederick, so I guess they called him Fred for Alfred. Poor guy must have been very confused.

My Brother and I have been searching for Dymock Castle for years, because according to Marriage and Death Certificates that is where our G Grandmother was born. Well, the closest we have found is a Restaurant and Castle Tump which just a few days ago I put in to Google and found out that it is an Archaelogical Site.

Thank you very much for that. Is Castle Tump the area, or just that section??
