by Godfrey, Monday, February 18, 2008, 01:10 (6132 days ago)

I believe that John is one of my ancestors. It says that his parents are Ansell and Jane BROWNING, but I can't find them in any other records apart from when they are linked to John's baptism . Can SKS help me please ?
Thanks,
Godfrey

Thanks for your reply "slowhands" but I know who John's parents were from his baptism records, it's just that I can't find them anywhere else. If only I could find their baptisms and marriage, it would help my research enormously.

steady on Godfrey - I was still working on it !

There are a number of Browning families just over the Severn south of Gloucester - Frampton , Brookthorpe, Upton St Leaonards, Longney, Haresfield etc.

Ansell is perhaps the sort of christian name that you might expect to be passed down generations - any evidence ??? other forms Ancell, Ansel, Anselm has French or possibly German origins - so were the family Mariners ??

Thanks for your interest Slowhands. You're right John m Elizabeth Spring from Brookthorpe and they had a son Ansel at Harescombe. Ansel m Hester Beard at Upton St Leonards and my ancestors stayed in USL for nearly 200 years.
I know most things back to John but I can't get any further back than his parents Ansell and Jane. I don't know whether Ansell was a mariner.
Best Wishes,
Godfrey
