Thanks for your intriguing response. I have looked at some of the newspaper articles . Gypsy Smith is definitely not the Smith I am researching nor is the John Smith in the 1881 census as the children's names do not match.

I am not quite sure why you think the person in the article was researching the same John Smith.

Did you actually find he page concerning the John Smith he found? I have not used the free Welsh newspapers online before. Does the number in the link you sent indicate the page I should read?
