Cheers Mike, and a good full set of Records for him for a change. Re the possibility of the brothers serving in the War, I checked this site's database but no luck, similarly my check of the CWGC site suggested neither were killed.

So it does seem possible Jame's early death was due to the War. And as a bonus you found sister Gertrude too, excellent.

Have you looked for Herbert in the 1939 Register ?
Nothing certain but this is the nearest Death record I can find to fit him, age fits and not too far away;
