Thanks Chris, very interesting & helpful information about another brave young man.
Please may I ask two questions,
1. Does his Medal Index Card stated "K.I.A" or similar. I'm asking from a general viewpoint wrt my better understanding of these Records.
2. Do you have any clues as to where Daniel joinedup ?. I ask as one of my ancestors from Longhope joined the RND, so not quite a Marine but a trench Seaman anyhow. It seemed odd to me that this should happen, no clear geographical etc Navy links there, why not join the more obvious Army Regiment ?. Subsequently I've found others in that area who had already been in, or joined, the Navy; presumably those Services also recruited locally maybe Gloucester Docks etc.
