Anne JOYNES born 1846 (General)
Thank you probinson for the birth certificate for Anne JOYNES.
It completes a rather sad picture.
We will never know whether she ever actually knew her father. However, when she starts work it is still in Coleford, even though her name has changed (interesting to know what difference that made in a town as small as Coleford in the 1860s). Similarly, the man she marries in 1871, Edwin SMITHSON was born in 1847 but her GRO index entry does not give his mother's maiden name. This could mean that his mother's name was SMITHSON and that she was unmarried. Interestingly, the Ann JOYNES-Edwin SMITHSON marriage certificate states his father as John SMITHSON. A puzzle!
