I am descended from a family named Birt who lived in the Forest of Dean area during the 19th century.
James Birt was born c1800 in Newland and married Elizabeth James. Their children were Ann Margaret Mary Ann Thomas James Samuel Elizabeth Matida and Rhoda.
Many of these moved to north Warwickshire c1870 probably for work in the coal mines.
I'd love to hear from anyone who has connections with this family.

I am interested in a James Birt, born c1801 at Newland, Gloucestershire. It appears that James married Elizabeth James, at Bedwelty, Monmouthshire in 1831, and both were living at Gibraltar, Gloucestershire on the 1851 census with children Mary Ann, Thomas, James, Samuel, Matilda and Rhoda (another daughter, Margaret was working away).
By 1881 Elizabeth was widowed and living at Polesworth in Warwickshire suggesting that James had died at some point between the censuses of 1851 and 1881. The location of the death/burial is not known, unless the location is somewhere in Gloucestershire, but I wonder if there is anyone with any connection with this family who may be able to help?

My 2Xgreat grandmother, Margaret Birt was born in Parkend, Gloucestershire,
c1835, daughter of James Birt and Elizabeth James.
