Upper Crofts Clearwell - could this be a transription of the "ss" written as "fs" ? as in Rofs on Wye hence Upper Cross, Clearwell

The central point in Clearwell is the Cross which was erected in the 14th century; it was called the High Cross in 1624 and the Upper Cross in 1705
