Malson family . . . (General)

Hi Dan,

Congratulations on getting so far back in your family tree - I'm very envious! The earliest Malson/Malsom I have been able to directly link to is John Malson ~1660 - 1670 - despite narrowing down possible parents, I have 2 very good fits left, which means I have probably hit a brick wall.

The earliest Malson I have managed to find has been a John Malson baptism 1/8/1539, Westbury-on-Severn.. on this website - there are many more that should help you. Not all the records have been uploaded (although thanks to the generosity of the volunteers there aren't that many records left!), you can check these on the website through the Parish Records tab, just in case your parish isn't updated yet...

There is also a database on the Gloucester Record Office website that could be useful to you, lists records by date for wills, non-conformist records etc... it is a very reasonable service to order copies and have them sent to you too - I am just working my way through 14 wills - earliest Joseph 1672 so probably no help to you - and doesn't look too promising for my search either ;-) I live in Australia and for all the copies and the postage it cost 44 pounds... The reason I mention this as a possible avenue for you is that I can see wills on the search for mid 16th century (one is a Richard, will date 1559).

As for the name articles, I am intrigued - did you get these online? I have looked online and through many reference books and can't seem to find an explanation (all my other surnames are there, just this one is proving elusive). Did you look at 'Malson' or other spelling variations.. e.g 'Mawlson, Maulson" etc...

Good luck in your investigations :)

Kerri
