Hopefully, the marriage certificate of Esther to John WILCE - would give the name of her father. This was the way I proved my x grandmother's maiden name.

For example, my grandmother's birth certificate in 1869 (my Dad's was the youngest of 12 and I was the youngest of 4) - so I'm not that ancient! - Rhoda FIELD, mother Mary FIELD, late DUNSDON, late JOHNSON, formerly WAYNE.

Mary FIELD's second marriage certificate in 1842 : Mary JOHNSON, married Henry DUNSDON, Father: Thomas WAYNE
