George Edwin SHORT 1857 Hanley Staffs (General)
Thanks "slowhands." I had looked on a map and it seemed very far away, but wanted a second opinion. I had seen the 1861 England census listed his birthplace as Hanley, but had seen later ones listing his birthplace as West Dean. Very confusing. Also, I was confused because he was also baptized at Christchurch on 16 Jul 1857. Were they sometimes baptized twice in different locations? On a side note, I also found his brother, James Enoch, born in Shelton, Staffordshire in 1858. I found him on the genuki website. All of the other children were born/baptized in the Forest of Dean. The parents were also married at Parkend. I can't imagine why they moved back and forth since that was far away (to them, at least). Thanks for your help. This website has been an amazing resource for a part of my family that has stumped me for over 30 years. I found the website by Googling the Short name and Forest of Dean.
