Births and Christenings in Newent Workhouse. (General)
I am researching my STEPHENS ancestors who came from Redmarley. A STEPHENS daughter, Sarah Ann(e) born in 1842, married a William PALMER. After she died, William lived with and later married a woman called Roseanne ARCHER (though the forename Roseanne has about 8 variants in different records including Rosanna, Rose Ann, Rosehannah).
Roseanne was born in Upleadon in 1867. She had 2 children in Newent Workhouse, Gertrude ARCHER in 1897 and William Charles ARCHER in 1891. (This latter appears in the Christening records as Charles Sims ARCHER, but I am pretty sure this is Roseanne again.)
In both cases, the children are Christened soon after birth, by the minister of the Workhouse. Does anyone know, in cases such as this, would the Christening take place in the workhouse itself, or in the Parish Church?
Many thanks
Jane
