BEVAN of Tidenham (General)
Hi and thanks for your reply, as ever, much appreciated.
I have the gaol record for the 1830 acquittal, which shows Edward Bevan alias Morfield aged 23 as a Waterman. The 1838 record was for warehouse breaking, and on the Tasmanian records, Edward is shown as a Labourer.
I have been unable to find a second birth record for Edward Bevan, though I have an alternative Susannah, nee Cole, the wife of Edward Bevan of Bushley. However, I can find no record of either this earlier Edward's death nor a marriage between Susannah Bevan and William Moorfield. (On the other hand, given William's age, this may not be surprising!)
I have the death certs for both William and Susannah Moorfield, William shown as 86 on the death cert, and Susannah as 78. Most likely candidate for William is the one baptised at Sandhurst in 1750, so he would actually have been 95.
The Moorfields seem to have been Watermen/Fishermen as well as the Bevans, which may explain why available records are so sketchy.
I have been struggling with unravelling this part of the family tree ever since I began researching, as info is so hard to come by, so even the smallest nugget may give me a clue where to look next.
Angela
