Now that has gone and done it!it all makes sense now as a waterman he would have traveled to gloucester with work on the waterways!i have Thomas collier 1808 born in calne to a Thomas Collier 1771+Betty Mortimer 1761 penciled in on my Ancestry.co family tree from a suggested link i have the mortimer family back to 1653!but no way of tying it all together till now,i had missed the "waterman" job title...........looking good i think. But it does,nt matter where i search there doesnt seem to be anyone searching the collier family this far back it just runs dry at the confusing mr"Thomas collier"thanks so far everybody for your input, this seems to be a very very helpful site, and cannot thankyou all enough, especially Christine Willcox who gave me this link....
thanks nic
p.s its just come to me as i looked at the canal site you listed as i came to the canal refurbishment section,i actually worked on 3 of the locks being refurbed at the minute, they had been dredged, drained and dammed off so we could work on the brickwork and seal the leaks and pumped cement grout behind lock walls to sure them up,its mad to think my 3xgreatgrandfather could have worked these locks 150+ years ago.....small world....
