1841 census - Districts (General)

Look at the 1841 census for Swindon - and look at the Enumerator's notes for the 3 Districts (only three) ( think you belong to Ancestry)

this will show you what areas where classed as Swindon then - like Walcot, Eastcott Hill etc - so to Thomas, this would be Swindon - not what we would think of Swindon today.

There is one Jefsee/Jessee (assume christened James COLLIER) age 20 - Labourer, born in County - District 8, Page 8


There is quite clusters of COLLIERS, at Wroughton, about 3 miles - Sub Reg: District of Swindon on census returns

Also William Austin COLLIER/Thomas Austin COLLIER - there are Austin's at Wroughton - I say this because my dad/and his nephew (Swindon bred) Christians names were Austen - and AUSTIN was their x Grandmother's maiden name, and my 'expected' new Grandson will have Austen as his middle name.
