Hi John, great research there wrt your "possibility" (methinks you sell yerself short) of the Blunt's ship, interesting stuff indeed. The way they nonchalantly mention "four deaths" suggest that to be the norm !

The GB surname website doesn't recognise Ronde but does Rondel and it originates from Newport SW area. The surname Roud is an Asian "import" centred on Southampton so perhaps less likely.

HOWEVER, that said searching FreeBMD does show numerous Rouds including likely hits for George Sr and the children. It also shows the following marriage:

The family is clearly moving around a lot. I wonder if this is due to George Senior's ag-labourer work being hard-to-find despite Hampshire being an agricultural county, perhaps instigating their move to NZ in 1870 ?.
