This seems entirely reasonable in several ways, not least their mothers' names Sarah & Maria being used for their firstborn child. HOWEVER I'm a little "nervous" regarding change of name between Joseph & Joel, especially as there are a fair few possible Josephs in this area too !....?

Searching the 1851 Glos Census cd gives the following household:

So by now father Thomas has presumably passedaway leaving mother Maria as Head of household, witness Henry was indeed Joel's brother and presumably witness in the absence of father ?.
