by unknown, Saturday, February 11, 2012, 23:48 (4664 days ago)
Hullo,
I'm researching an ancestor, James Holder born in Owlpen or Uley Gloucestershire
abt 1820 to parents Benjamin Holder and Sarah Mathews.
James served in the Regiment of Foot, rising to rank of sergeant on discharge abt 1852. He came to Australia, married in 1861 and died at Taree NSW in 1895.
Am looking for his parents and their ancestors and hope sks may be able to assist with information of the families he left behind in Gloucestershire.
Regards

Benjamin HOLDER married Sarah MATTHEWS - 2 June 1819, Wotton Under Edge - Glos Marriage Index
Looking at the Gloucestershire Baptism CD, I can see 3 siblings of James - from 1820 onwards - 2 males, (William 1820 & Frederic 1826 ) 1 female, (Harriett- 1823 ) parents : James (occupation Weaver/labourer) & Sarah HOLDER. As these baptisms took place outside the FOD area, (Wotton Under Edge & Minchinhampton) if you click the envelope next to my name, can send direct to you.
Census returns show the family/siblings seem to be in Uley, living quite close.. and the female Harriett , married and living in Cheltenham.
