UPDATE to the above post now FreeBMD is back online, I find:

Surname Given Name Mother District Volume Page Transcriber
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Jun 1914
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ROBERTS Kathleen F. Cann Westbury S. 6a 500 Jacqui

(So Kathleen's mother was indeed a Cann, as per the Paddington Marriage Record found above).

No Burial for Kathleen on FreeBMD but most recent entry is 1962 so not surprising.
Ancestry Free Search pages show a Death in 1995 for a Freda Kathleen Roberts in Glos ?? Can also see Kathleen to be a popular Roberts name in C20th Glos.

Also from FreeBMD I find these possible siblings (Robin, after 1911 the Birth Registers recorded mother's maiden names, so easier to search). http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

I cannot find an Inquest for Verdun, but infant deaths were far from uncommon then.

Here's a Prior thread wrt Verdun and father Richard George Roberts.
http://www.forum.forest-of-dean.net/index.php?id=24305

The Battle of Verdun thro 1916 didn't generally involve British troops, but the sheer horror of the huge casualties sustained by Britain's French allies meant a lot of British children b1916 were named Verdun in memoriam.

I've also only just found this Prior Thread wrt Emily Cann hence Richard George Roberts. I'm pleased to see my earlier posts have been generally correlated, but far more importantly we know more about Richard's mother Maria.

I'm also pleased to discover why I coudn't find them on the 1901 Census; presumably for reasons associated with their brief London "adventure", Richard & Emily soon returned to Drybrook with a very young Richard George Junior, but were now known as Cinderby if only, presumably, on the Census forms rather than the local community.
Well spotted & thanks for clarifying, Slowhands & Co !

(Robin, you may recall Sarah Cinderby was mentioned by MPG at top of your thread).

Robin, may I recommend you study the website of David Watkins aka "Admin" linked within the above Prior Thread.
http://david.watkins.org.au/cgi-bin/perlged.cgi?method=get&action=display&selec...

It appears Robin that you are distantly related to the founder of this great website who sadly passed away this year.
Please see the post pinned to the top of the Forum Index, David was clearly a great man who we all owe so very much to, thankyou Dave.
