I am very grateful to both Michael and Slowhands for all the information they have posted here. This is my second attempt to post my thanks, not sure what happened to my first.

You both certainly have given me something to work on - it will take me a while to digest all this. If that James WHITTINGTON is 'mine' then that will make the third jailbird in my family!! The HALEs are from my Dad's side so I guess things might be evening up as the other two are on my Mum's and they were husband and wife. He went inside because he stole and she because she assaulted her husband!!
