I know you are aware of this as we have corresponded in the past, but for the sake of information appertaining to this question; when Elijah Herbert was baptised 8 Oct 1820 Drybrook he was shown as a base child. However, when he married Jane Baglin 1814 at Staunton 26 May 1840, a father Thomas Gay - collier was shown. Even within the Parish Records available on this web site, there are 4 Thomas Gay's of an appropriate age.

I too would be interested in details of the parents of Elizabeth Herbert, mother of Elijah.
