CADOGAN & PHELPS, Awre salmon fisheries drowning, 1885 (General)
I believe William Phelps' second wife was Harriet (Brown) Marsh, widow of my 4x great grandfather Joseph Marsh.
William Phelps, aged 60, widower of Awre (son of John Phelps, Captain) married Harriet Marsh, aged 54, widow of Awre (dau of Thomas Brown, Farmer) at Westbury on Severn Register Office in Jun 1874.
Harriet Brown was the daughter of Thomas Brown & Elizabeth Hooper, Elizabeth was the daughter of Stephen Hooper & Elizabeth Presbury of Field House (Fieldhouse).
Elizabeth Presbury was the younger sister of Joanna Presbury, wife of Charles Cadogan c.1740-1816.
The three Presbury sisters divided an estate inherited from their maternal grandfather John Trippet(t) of Field House, Awre d.1736, a father of five with no Male issue.
Strangely enough his maternal grandfather John Clifford, a descendant of the Clifford family (Rosamund Clifford) hadn't any Male 'issue' either.
John Trippett married Joannah Perry around 1702, her father Robert Perry of Kingswood, Wilts. was the second cousin of Jane Fitzwilliam (Wentworth-Fitzwilliam), second wife of Sir Christopher Wren.
John Clifford's great, great grandfather, John Walshe was King's Champion at the Coronation of Henry VIII in 1509, whilst another was Catherine Parr's cousin.
