Bayly/Bayley or even Baily (General)
Ahh
Thanks for your response
So if I go out and order the Parish records for Longhope I would not necessarily and probably not find the original entry. Why was this done, did it indicate some degree of social standing (ie like the diference between Banns and by License as it was explained to me) or that the child was sickly and might not live long enough for the formal baptism.
I did see other night in the films, the original entry you quoted. It was very unusual as it was tucked away in the margins and not part of the main record. I also wonder why this was done so late in the childrens lives, I mean george was 18 and my ancestor was 14. It was also done in Mitcheldean not the orginal parish. Was there a sudden stocktaking so to speak of the churches cattle that made it important for all to be registered?
With respect to the "Hundred" vs Parish, so this was simply way for the Minster to record the people of being from the other side of the river 10 kilometers to the east without actually specificing the other Parish. So there was "of this Parish" and the rest from over the river lumped together as "of the Hundred". I am sure they werent thinking of future genalogists when they did this.
