Good afternoon Harry,
thanks so much for your helpfull posts. Yes I was aware of those research routes, the TNA site being particularly usefull in lieu of Ancestry etc. I was planning to visit my local library tomorrow, just reopened after a frustratingly-long closure for refurbishment, there I was intending to further investigate several WW1 records off Ancestry and now out of curiosity Daniel will be added to my list. Following your advice on the recent Frank Dent thread I'll be focussing on the "Soldiers Died in the Great War 1914-1919" resource, a new one to me, thanks again.
As you've probably realised my first query wrt the erroneous "K.I.A." entry - like my recent post on the Dent thread - is because of Chris' initial post re the apparent ambiguity of the reporting of Daniel's death.
As annoying as it can be to not have full Ancestry etc access at home all the time, in some ways it's good having to get out of the house and use the library for a change. They also have FindMyPast access which, as you'll no doubt know, occasionally carry extra information compared to Ancestry particularly it seems wrt pre WW1. Last summer, just before my library closed, I was also able to download some of FMP's newly-acquired RND Service Records which I don't think were on Ancestry. As this friendly forum often shows it's always worthwhile trying different sources or angles of information.
Thanks again, Jeff
