I am not related to your GGF.

In 1999, I began a project to collate the memorials etc of all in the Coleford district whose names were listed on the many memorials in local churches, clubs etc; as a result of which I was able to convince the Coleford Town Council to construct one comprehensive memorial in the town centre so that their names would not be forgotten as churches, clubs and the like close down and their memorials disappear. (I know of a number of memorials which have been found in piles of scrap metals and did not wish this to happen to our local service personnel).

I stumbled, by accident, upon DWD's grave which is on the North side of English Bicknor church; (I do not think his name is listed anywhere else except perhaps on the Royal Naval memorials in Plymouth or Portsmouth). At that time the grave was covered with brambles, weeds and tree branches and was lost to view unless someone was searching closely. I uncovered the stone, recorded the details and placed his name in Coleford.
